Refinery Safety Overview (RSO)

As of January 1st, 2018 California Health & Safety code § 25536.7 and California Code of Regulations, title 8, § 5189(h)(g) requires all refinery workers to complete a 20-Hour Advanced Safety Training for Workers Employed by Contractors in High Hazard Facilities.

Operating Engineers Training Trust is now DAS (Department of Apprenticeship Standards) Approved to hold this course. 

The class is 20-hours in duration, spread over 3 days and covers Fundamentals of Petroleum Refining, Refinery Safety Overview, and Craft Specific Training. If the class is facilitated at night, the 20-hour course is spread over five consecutive evenings, being four hours in duration each evening.

After completing the class you will receive your 

​

  • High Hazard Facility / RSO Certification

Disaster Site Worker

This course will provide the member with preparatory information regarding work involving disaster response.

​

Prerequisite: Must have OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.

Confined Space Safety Awareness

This course will provide the member with preparatory information regarding work involving confined spaces.​

​

Prerequisite: Must have OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.

Mine Worker Safety (MSHA)

This course will provide the member with mine safety and health preparatory information regarding work in mining operations classified in Part 30 of the Federal Regulations.

CPR / First Aid / AED

This course will provide the member with the basic knowledge of CPR, First Aid, and AED involved in the event of an accident on the work site.

 

Prerequisite:  None.

HAZWOPER (HAZMAT Worker 40 Hour)

This course will provide the member with the basic knowledge to work safely with known hazardous materials, applicable regulations, and safe practices to achieve the HAZWOPER certification. 

 

Prerequisite:  None.

NOTE: All HAZWOPER (HAZMAT Worker 40-hour) Classes will be 7 - 3:30 pm. No van service will be provided.

HAZMAT Worker Refresher

This course will provide the member with information on previously discussed topics, current events, and updated regulations, as well as the knowledge necessary to obtain the renewal of their HAZWOPER certification.

 

Prerequisite:   HAZWOPER Certification.

(Note: This has to be current certification.)

NOTE: All HAZWOPER (HAZMAT Worker 40-hour) Classes will be 7 - 3:30 pm. No van service will be provided.

Asbestos Worker

This course will provide the member with the basic knowledge to work with asbestos safely and achieve the asbestos worker initial certification.

Prerequisite: None.

Construction Outreach Training (OSHA 30)

This course will familiarize the member with various general construction-related safety topics designed for members involved in supervisory positions.

​

Prerequisite: None.

Construction Outreach Training (OSHA 10)

This course will familiarize the member with various construction industry-related safety topics.

​

Prerequisite: None.
